Defining Family

Author: Katie Harden

This is the summer that everything changes.
Thanks to her terrible relationship with her parents, Mia is sending herself down a path of self-destruction. Not wanting to deal with it themselves, Mia’s parents send her away to live with another family to correct her behavior.
That’s how, the summer before senior year of high school, Mia finds herself living with the Johnsons – a big, happy family pushing love onto Mia that she isn’t ready to accept.
Faced with 3 months of manual labor at the Johnson’s dog shelter, impromptu therapy sessions, and an aggravating boy she’s forced to live with, Mia concocts a scheme to get out early. But she soon finds out that not everything is as it seems, including the perfect, happy family she’s staying with.
It’s a summer full of change, discomfort, self-growth, and romance.
But can Mia change enough to correct her own path? Can found family outweigh blood? Or does the end of summer spell trouble?
